About SONIC THE TAROT

SONIC THE TAROT is a physical, 78-card deck based on Sonic the Hedgehog and formulated after the standard Rider-Waite Tarot template. As such, it is separated into five distinct sections:

The Major Arcana of SONIC THE TAROT

The Major Arcana features major players in the franchise, such as Sonic, Tails, Eggman, etc. Some cards stay relatively faithful to the imagery of the Rider-Waite versions, while some do a completely new take entirely.

The Suit of Cups of SONIC THE TAROT

The Suit of Cups displays zones and locations from the games, such as Green Hill Zone, Twinkle Park, Rooftop Run, etc. The Suit of Cups traditionally represents feelings and relationships: the stages in the franchise are often where the cast's biggest revelations occur.

The Suit of Pentacles of SONIC THE TAROT

The Suit of Pentacles houses prominent items and objects used by the cast, such as the Tornado, Death Egg, Chaos Emeralds, etc. The Suit of Pentacles traditionally represents the material aspects of life (such as possessions) and thus is represented by the franchise's objects and items.

The Suit of Swords of SONIC THE TAROT

The Suit of Swords showcases the dastardly (or wannabe) foes of Sonic and friends, such as Chaos, Dark Gaia, Surge and Kit, etc. The Suit of Swords traditionally embodies action, power, and taking charge--perfect for the antagonists in the franchise!

The Suit of Wands of SONIC THE TAROT

Finally, the Suit of Wands presents the other pals and allies of Sonic and friends, such as Mighty and Ray, Trip, the Diamond Cutters, etc. The Suit of Wands traditionally represents one's consciousness and core values, with the extended cast of the franchise presenting plenty of personality to go around.

Technical Overview

SONIC THE TAROT comes with 78 unique, fully-colored, illustrated cards with reversible backs, perfect for giving all manner of readings. The cards come in a rigid, two-part box decorated with a featured card art, the Minor Arcana symbols, and a summary of the project in the back. Also included is a bifold booklet featuring an artist statement, special thanks, and directions to the project's website, where you're at right now!.

In terms of specifications, each card is a standard 2.75 x 4.75 inches, made in blue-core, glossy cardstock to limit the ability of light to shine through the illustrations. The box is slightly bigger than the cards and is also in a glossy finish.

The Timeline

For Sonic Expo 2024, a set number of decks were ordered. The remaining decks--20 of them--are available for early preorder at a discounted rate. These decks are identical to the normal preorder decks, except they will ship soon after the campaign ends as opposed to waiting until after production. The early bird decks are estimated to ship around April-May 2025, with purchasers being updated if this timeline changes.

Otherwise, normal deck preorders will ship after the campaigns end and the decks are put into production. Shipping is estimated to occur sometime in June-July 2025, with purchasers being updated if this timeline changes.
